The previous comment was originally marked as spam but I allowed because I wanted to comment on it.
I recite Sanskrit mantras in my spiritual practice of Bhakti Yoga and sing chants in kirtan. I feel it is appropriate for me to do so. How appropriate is this for a Christian? I wouldn't know. Whether or not a spiritual practice is "appropriate" is entirely up to the individual.

Kundalini is not a Hindu deity. The world essentially means "coiled power" (<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kundalini" target-"_blank" rel="nofollow">Wikipedia</a>) and is often likened to a coiled snake. Snake worship in Hinduism? I haven't heard of that but I guess it's possible. Many Christians confuse reverence and respect with worship.

Why not depict Jesus in a lotus pose? Who's to say that Jesus wasn't influenced by Buddhists or yogis who may have traveled to his area. Who's to say that Jesus did not visit India? There are approximately 18 years of his life that the Bible does not account for.

Finally, I don't see any see any relevance to my original post. It appears to be a randomk cut and paste spam comment.

These words are not common nor ordinary language. They are usually the "Sanskrit" words of the Hindu Scriptures: Upanishads, Rig Vedas and the Bhagavad-Gita. Sanskrit is only used by Brahmin priests in their ceremonies and the worship of their deities. This may be valid for them of course, but how valid is it for a Christian? Sadly there are a frightening number of Catholics caught up in these many forms of New Age practices. A black & white version of the picture above for example, was used to advertise a "De Mello Weekend" in a Catholic parish. It depicts Jesus in the yoga lotus position, seated on a multi-hooded Cobra: the goddess Kundilini. Not only is this a sacrilege, but it is also an offense to the Hindus who worship these snakes.

The first Heart-opening class was pretty good and since it's a drop-in class, I'll probably include it in my weekly routine.

I'm disappointed that the Svadhyana Intensive was canceled because not enough people signed up for it. I think there were about four signed up and she needed at least ten.

It seemss to be plenty of yoga in the Dayton area but few seem to be interested in moving beyond asana or committing beyond a weekend workshop. There seems to be a similar disinterest in kirtan around here. There's a small core group of yogis looking for a deeper practice that goes further than asana.

I've reflected upon this experience and I really can't explain what happened or exactly what feelings come to the surface. All I'm sure of is that it was powerful and intense. Maybe the kirtan released some deep-seated feelings and emotions that I'd been suppressing. That's the most likely reason although part of me wants to believe that her spirit actually touched my heart.

Update on my previous comment. Using a yoga towel to cover the mat helps quite a bit. I've been doing sun salutations this way without incident. Locust and Bow Poses have not been a problem either.

What I find so inspiring about this is the idea that no matter what my practice is on a given day, it is part of a practice that has been gong on for thousands of years by countless people. In a sense, it connects me with every yogi ever, an eternal sangha.
