Yoga Conditioning

Sri Yoga Center‘s Yoga Conditioning class is designed to condition your body and mind for the deeper aspects of yoga. I know I was tired and sweaty after the first class. In her classes, Melissa usually places a lot of emphasis on the core so I wasn’t surprised that there was plenty of core [...]

Opening up

Recently I was thinking about the apparent lack of progress in my yoga practice despite attending four or five classes a week. I felt that I was less supple, less capable of holding certain poses and experiencing more discomfort in some poses. There also seemed to be a lack of progress in calming my [...]

Dragging me down

I think I’ve been devoting too much bandwidth to commenting on every class or practice I do. It’s got to be boring to anyone who might read this blog. It certainly bores me. This is meant to be a chronicle of my journey in yoga but there’s no need to document every little step.

Hot Yoga (02-22)

Tonight’s hot yoga class was very small with only two students and a substitute teacher. Meleah stood in for Jessica this evening. Having a different teacher provides a nice change of pace and a little variety. Of course, there is always a chance to learn something new such as a different variation or modification [...]

18 Feb Yoga Class

Twitter: Good yoga class. Some areas resist the natural yogic state a lot more than others. Some of that may be mental blocks I need to let go of.

As usual, core work kicked my ass although it’s my legs that hurt, not my abs. That could be because my core isn’t strong enough [...]

13 Feb Yoga Class

The yoga class was challenging but good. At the end of it I was sweaty and tired but very refreshed. I attempted a headstand against the wall with only the blanket for cushioning but it slid out from under me and I slid down the wall. The mat also prevents such slides. The woman [...]

10 Feb Hot Yoga

I had a pretty good yoga class. As usual, core work, Warrior poses, and balancing gave me the most difficulty. Locust Pose also gave me trouble, I just couldn’t get my arms up. Wheel Pose wasn’t happening either. But on a positive note, I did a pretty nice headstand. My heels touched the wall [...]

8 Feb Hot Yoga

The hot yoga class was good, a great workout. The lower quads protested and resisted the natural state as they usually do. Using blocks in Urdhva Dhanurasana (Wheel Pose) really helped.

4 Feb Yoga Class

It was an intermediate class tonight and, as usual, it was quite challenging, especially the core portion. The Warrior/Triangle sequence wasn’t too bad this evening. Vasisthasana (Side Plank Pose) was challenging and Parsva Bakasana (Side Crane Pose) was still unattainable.

On the plus side, I did another near perfect Salamba Sarvangasana (Supported Shoulderstand). Melissa [...]

3 Feb Hot Yoga

I had a great hot yoga class. It seems like just about everything flowed although I had some trouble with balance but that’s normal. It wasn’t as bad this evening. The practice was culminated by a near perfect shoulder stand. Melissa commented on how good it was. I felt good about it. My legs [...]
